Then there was the event of mountain-lifting by Krishn. It was too executed to tame the ego of Indr.

Indr is king of demigods in heaven. He has servants like demigods named after their activities Fire demigod-Agni, Wind demigod-Vayu, Rain demigod-Varun. There was a ritual which was performed to propitiate Indr so that he would order Varun to shower rain just enough neither less nor more.

When the preparation were going on in Gokul, the village of Krishn, Krishn decided to stop the ritual. He advised to worship Gowardhan Mountain instead. He argued that Goverdhan gave food for cattle which in turn gave them milk, on selling that milk they survived their lives. Initial opposition to the plan was overcame by Krishn and his associates.

Seeing this, Naradji traveled to heaven to stoke Indr. He told Indr,'You are enjoying the pleasures of heaven, but are you aware that a small boy in Gokul has shopped your worship?' Naradji did not tell who that boy was.

Indr got angried. He called Varun and said,'Who is this boy? I need to let him know my powers. You go to Gokul and lash it under so heavy a rain that a single shower looks like a think rod.'

So did Varun. It went to Gokul and did as was told. Residents of Gokul were frightened to see that rain with thunder and lightening. Some of them said,'This is what we warned earlier. You have taken a dig at Indr. Now, he won't leave us unpunished.'

All of them went to Krishn. Krishn assured them protection. He then took all of them to the Goverdhan and lifted the mountain with the support of his baby finger of right hand. All the Gokul stayed below it for seven days during which rain fell heavily.

After rain finished all its rain stock, Indr realized that he boy was God himself. He then came down on his elephant, Airawat, and requested Krishn to forgive him. His ego was tamed.

With this episode, Krishn achieved two objectives.
1. Made Indr realize that he(indr) is not the ultimate authority. His ego came down.
2. Krishn established that anyone who is under his and only his protection can never suffer.
