What were your achievements last year?
I achieved this, I achieved that, I achieved many things...but all these achievements will dumped in dreaded darkness where I am moving forward... Meaning? The death is near to you by one year!!
Therefore the coming of new year is not the matter of celebration because one precious year of the whole life is gone without any substantial progress related to seeking the permanent bliss that exists with God. If a person is in jail then he would happy that one year of his punishment is over. His freedom is a year nearer. But when death has come near by one, how could it be the cause for celebration? In that case the dying person should celebrate his dyeing moment with much fanfare because death is just few seconds away!
If someone has rs one million rupees in deposits and out of which if half a million are spent, it should be cause for worry that only half is left and that too will be spent then what? In such situation person would think about earning the money. Similarly when the life is reduced by one year, there should be thinking that
did I do anything that will at least ensure the human form in the next life, if not the overcoming death or acquiring divine bliss?
One must reflect on the time spent spiritually and materially. We are two - body and soul. Did I share the time 50:50 at least in bodily material requirements and soul's spiritual requirements?
Think the year that was lost
Think the time that was stolen
Think what you gave and think not what you got
Realize that giving is the best gain...
What that new year is in which there is nothing new my dear
What that insipid life is in which there is no spiritual fire my dear!
Vo naya saal bhi kya jisme koi nayi baat na ho
Vo neeras jeevan bhi kya jisme koi spiritual aag no ho
