There are more
arguments which go against the identification of 'I' with body. If
someone loses some body part for some reason, that person retains the
identity of 'I' there is no loss of identity 'I'.
Human body is complicated. Every cell is supposed
to a living cell. Then there are groups of cells, organs and so on.
But identity of 'I' is one and the same for all. What exactly is 'I'?
Is it heart? Is it brain? Is it head?
If it is claimed that the whole collection neatly
packed in the skin is body, then the question is what happens after
death? The collection is still intact.
If it is claimed that living body is 'I', then
there is trap. What keeps body living? Because the word 'Living' is
what designated as 'I'. Dead body is not 'I'. It can only mean that
the body has not capacity of its own to keep itself alive and
therefore the living entity is different from the body.
Consider the dreams. The physical body is resting
on bed and 'I' keeps on moving places in the dreams. Is 'I' the
physical body? But physical body is stationary while 'I' is not. Thus
the physical body cannot be 'I'.
