So, it is clear that
none of the fives goal can be achieved if one limits oneself with the
limitations of the body.
Further analysis would
show that out of these five objectives, happiness is of prime
importance. This point is validated from the following observations:
1. To seek joy, people
give up learning if learning is expected to bring in sufferings. For
example, girl's education in many country faced initial hurdles as
girls did not take up schooling fearing backlash from community.
2. To seek joy, people
give up freedom. You can see people in service. They accept the
binding to earn money which they feel is important in seeking
happiness.
3. To seek joy, people
give up life. Take the case of people committing suicide. They end up
life to put an end to unbearable grief.
4. To seek joy, people
give up power. There are reported incidences of prince and princess
giving up the right to throne in order to seek happiness through
marrying a commoner against the tradition. Detached Lord Buddha gave
up throne to seek eternal bliss.
Thus the famous quote
"Everyone lives to seek self-happiness."To seek happiness all
the doctrines are developed. But key to seek true happiness is the
knowledge of 'I'.
