There is a recent story
related to the first Jagadguru Adi Shakarachary.
He was challenged by a
lady that he did not have knowledge of romance and therefore he could
not claim to be all knowing person which was what his title meant.
Shankarachary told the lady to come back after a year or so.
He gave serious thought
to what the lady said. After some days there was a news that a king
of a near by state had died. Shankaracharya told his disciples,'I am
going out of this body for a year. Preserve this body. I will be back
after the year.' He then came out of the body and entered into the
body of the dead king.
The king got up. The
court-men realized that it was the case alien-entry into the body.
They were sure that such act can be done only by spiritually advanced
soul. Hence orders were given to servants to find out and destroy any
such body that had been being protected at any hidden site. However,
servants could not trace any.
King was not the same
person as he was earlier. His queens asked him,'You don't look to be
same. It seems that the stroke had changed you. Earlier you would
watch us dancing with joy and after the dance you would embrace us.
But, now you look so disenchanted. You have lost the interest in us.'
Shankarachary continued
his stay in the King's body for about a year. During that time he
romanced with King's wives and gained knowledge of other household
activities.
After a year he left
the king's body and went back to his body that was preserved by his
disciples. He got up as one would get up after deep sleep.
The point is the soul
is different from body. One should be able to conceptualize that way.
Body is just like a bottle while soul is like elixir in the bottle.
Value is not that of casing but that of content.
What Shankarachary did
was a demonstration his stature. It is not at all necessary to think
on those lines. In fact, mind must be diverted from finite material
happiness to infinite divine happiness.
