After Bhagwat was written, his disciples retained its
stanzas in the memory. Once some disciples while in forest saw a
young man sitiing steadyfast in its posture. They tried to talk to
him, touched him to make him awake but nothing worked. This was Shuk
Dev. They were reciting the following verse from Bhagwat
"Barha
peedam natavara vapu: karnayo: karnikaram,
bibrath vasa: kanaka
kapisam vaijayanthim cha malam"
It means Krishn was looking extremely charming
with his peacock feather, flute, beautiful artistic posture and the
classic garland _Vaiayanti Mala.
To the surprise of disciples Shuk Dev opened his
eyes , but closed again thinking that the person with such a beauty
would not be accessible. The divine words related to Krishn entered
into his trans! Disciples came back to Ved Vyas and they told him
about the young man they saw in the forest.. Ved Vyas at once
realized that the man was none other than Shuk Dev. He then asked his
disciples to go back to the forest and recite the following verse
from Bhagwat :
aho bakiyam sthana-kala-kutam jighamsayapayayad
apy asadhvi
lebhe gatim dhatry-ucitam tato nyam kam va dayalum
saranam vrajema
Disciples did as they
were directed. They went to the forest and recited the verse where
Shuk Dev was in the trans.
The verse says Krishn is so
kind that he gave his abode (the eternal bliss) to the demon Putna
who went to kill him on the pretext that she breast fed Krishn,
though the action of breast feeding was done with intention to kill
Krishn. Putna applied a dreaded poison the tip of her breast and put
it in the mouth of 6 days old Krishn so that Krishn would be killed.
However, Krishn killed Putna instead but gave her his abode.
Listening to this Shuk
Dev came out of the trans and asked disciples where they learned that
verse. Disciples told that the verse was constructed by their master
Ved Vyas and there were many such verses in Bahgwat.
Suk Dev went to Ved
Vyas and listened to the Bhagwat and then narrated it to Parikshit.
