Saint Ramdas was Guru
of Shivaji. Shivaji was the one who successfully fought against
Muslims to establish Hindu kingdom in Maharashtra.
Once Saint Ramdas
decided that he along with all his disciples would go on pilgrimage
for about two months.
At his Ashram he used
to worship idols of Ram, Sita, Laxman and Hanuman. He posed a
question to his disciples, "Who will look after them?"
Everyone wanted to go with him and no one wanted to stay back.
At last Ramdas told a
dumb looking disciple that, "Look! We are all going to
pilgrimage and you will have to stay back. You must cook food every
day. Offer it to lord and after that you should eat." All other
proceeded on pilgrimage.
Next day that disciple
got up in morning, cleaned the room, washed the idols. Put clothes on
them and offered them cooked food. He thought Ram and his family
would eat the food. But to his dismay no one came. He too did not
eat. For continuously seven days, he did not eat.
At last God Ram along
with Sita, Laxman and Hanuman had to eat what he offered. So it
continued for some days.
One day, that disciple
did not get up. So God Ram went see what was the matter.
The disciple answered,
"See, I make food everyday and you all eat. And now I'm very
tired. Now if you want to eat, Sita should cook the food, Hanuman
should bring the necessary stuff to prepare food and Laxman should
clean the house. You should not do anything because you are master of
my Guruji."
So everyone assumed
their duties. One day Sita made a sweet dish (Khir).
The disciple started
crying and said, "O! My guruji likes Khir very much I want to
give it to him."
Sita said, "But
how can you go there? He is far off!"
The disciple answered,
"I'll sit on Hanuman's shoulder and within second he will take
me there!"
So he went to his
guruji. Guruji asked him "How come you are here? When did you
leave Ashram?"
"I left the Ashram
just now?"
"Just now?"
"Yes I came with
him" and he pointed to Hanuman. Ramdas went to Hanuman.
Hanuman told him the
story and said,"Please come fast to relieve us from our duties".
Guruji told everyone,
"The one who you thought most dumb person is one of my best
disciples!"
