In their conversation Gopis too narrated a story - There was a couple. Husband was to go on tour for few months. His wife was nervous about living alone without him. To placate his wife he gave his photograph to her. He said,’Till I am back you can worship this photograph so that you wouldn’t be lonely and this time of separation will soon be over.’ He then went on to his tour.

Wife was religiously devoted to the picture of her husband. She would talk with the photo, offer food, water etc to it. And was quite happy.

After few months, husband came back to house and asked her wife to open the door. She would not do so! She wanted to adore the photo even though her husband was present in person! She said,’I have my husband here with me. I don’t want to open the door. Please go away.’

So said Gopis, ‘All the directives of scriptures to serve father, mother, sister, husband taking them as God is the way to remember you. They are not God in their capacity. Material persons try to develop habit of seeing God in them to purify the heart.’

They continued,’Like that foolish wife, you expect us to go and serve our husbands who are just symbols of your presence. Wife is expected to serve her other half only if you are not available. When you, who are true beloved of soul, are there in person, it would be our folly to worship the images!"

It was a very true argument. God is soul of soul and therefore known as super soul. It is his presence that imparts life to any living being. And spiritual aspirant is expected to develop habit of realizing him in each and every particle of this world. If he is present in person, why should one look into anything else for his presence?
