Seeing that Arjun was completely overpowered by allurement of worldly relations and was getting deviated from his duty to fight injustice, Krishn gave a lecture of eighteen chapters, Gita, to let Arjun know the divine truth underlying this material world.

Krishn describe human form, ‘Human body is a chariot. It has five horses in the form of five senses. Mind is the rein that controls horses. Intellect is the driver and soul is the traveler’.

This chariot is given so that the traveler reaches its destination. The destination is God’s abode where soul comes to rest as it gets what it is searching for – the eternal and infinite happiness. Chariot travels in the direction where horses or senses move. Mind controls senses. In other words, senses perform actions by the direction of mind. Mind too is not free to act on its own. It has to obey what intellect dictates. Soul is just a traveler who is totally dependent on the intellect, the driver.

Mind can be broadly classified in to two spheres – one mind and the other intellect. The deliberations are the job of mind, but the decision comes from intellect. For example, when there is dilemma mind switches from one option to other considering pros and cons of each alternative. Intellect then gives its decision on what should be done. This process, in fact, is repeated for each and every action of the life. Thus intellect is solely responsible for the journey of chariot.

The chariot can take soul to places where it suffers or to the places where it gets happiness. As long as intellect is firm on its decision that there is happiness in this world- in money, in power, in relations, in position, in status, in fame and so on, intellect the driver will direct the chariot after this world where eternal happiness is not existing. It means that soul, the traveler, will never reach its destination of eternal happiness. If, intellect decides that the happiness is in God, the chariot will move in the spiritual direction. Once the chariot moves in the right direction, it will reach the destination one day or other. Otherwise soul's miseries will never end.

Driver, the intellect, is the most important of everything that soul has. Intellect is the decision maker and those decisions can put soul in distress or in bliss. How to change its decision that there is happiness in this world?
