A newborn child submits to his mother. Child is incapable of doing anything so he does nothing. All his needs are taken care of his mother. All that child knows is to cry. Listening to the cries of baby, mother decides what child might be in need of. She then acts accordingly. Feeds him or cleans him etc. As child grows, child starts doing few things of his own and to that extent, mother stops doing work for child. When fully grown up, youth does everything of his own and mother stops doing everything what she was doing when the youth was once child.

Similarly, as long as soul does everything, God does not do anything directly. When soul stops doing everything and reaches state of not doing anything, God does everything directly. Thus submission is doing nothing.

Why this condition of submission?

First, operation is carried out by the expert doctor and not by the patient. Doctor has the knowledge, skill while patient is completely reliant on the doctor. It is just impossible to cure any patient if he refuses to obey orders of the doctor. It is also necessary that patient don’t take his decisions regarding the treatment. If patient doesn’t take medicines according to prescription or if he doesn’t abide by the restrictions imposed by the doctor, patient cannot be treated. Patient has to submit to doctor if he wants to get well.

Second, it is already known that all attributes of God have infinite expanse. In other words, God and his all attributes are divine. Divinity can be experienced only through divine senses, mind and intellect. Divine instruments are required to know divine God. It means only God’s eyes can see God. Only God’s ear can hear God. Only God’s nose can have have fragrance of God. Only God’s skin can touch God and so on. All these divine instruments are available only with God. To get those divine senses, our mind must be purified. Purification of mind is done by God and a genuine saint. When we remember God, we give our mind to God. Once access is granted to God and genuine saint, they removes the dirt from the mind. He, then makes the purified mind divine, after which soul can experience the divine happiness or eternal bliss.
