Faith is the result of a pure heart. More pure the heart, more will it be inclined towards God. Misdeeds is the main cause that takes mind away from God. There is no natural liking for God as there is for family members and friends. In contrast, saints have natural liking for God. Like minded persons develop friendship. So, to have friendship with pure God, mind must be pure. Love practice is the best way to purify mind. Purer the mind, higher the faith in God. This is why persons with materialistic attitude don’t like the instances in history that bring forth the most wanted quality of faith.
Once the priest of the temple had some work for which he was to travel to another village. Before leaving, he asked his helper little boy, who was about 12 years old, to look after the idols. He told him that God should be properly bathed and that prior to eating the food boy should make sure that God had meal. The boy agreed.

Next day that boy got up early. Took bath himself and bathed the idols. He then prepared food and offered the food. He had full confidence that it was God whom he offered food. Idols did not eat the food. He thought might be God was missing the priest and hence he was not eating the food. He tried to cajole God into eating the food. Stone doesn’t listen, so didn’t idol. But the boy was sure, ‘These idols are God and that he is not eating the food offered by me’. He then said to God,’Fine! If you don’t eat, I won’t.’ He again treated God in the same way we teat our beloved. But idols did not eat.

The boy sat there and waited for God to eat the food. One day, two days, three days….Seven days passed. Neither the idols nor the boy ate the food. In the end, the boy was angry. He picked up a rod and said,’Eat the food else I will beat you up.’ And he raised his hand holding the rod. Goddesses and Gods came out and quickly started eating the food. Boy was happy.

Everyday all idols ate the food. Boy borrowed the wheat flour, rice, pulses, vegetables on account. When priest returned he got a quite handsome bill.
He shouted at the boy,’What did you do with all that material?’
‘Well, if so many will eat?’ said the boy.
‘So many? Who are they?’
‘These Gods and Goddesses!’
‘Are you fooling?’
‘Why should I? Watch it tomorrow.’

Next day in the presence of the priest Durgaji, shankarji, Krishnji, Radhaji did not eat any food. But when boy shut the doors, they all ate. Faith works. There was a voice,'We ate food offered by the boy because of his faith. You lack faith so you won't see us eating any food'. Cultivate the faith and feel it yourself!
